Protests have been going on for months---back and forth with the Army Corp of Engineers and state government officials with the Sioux. Also with the energy company---Energy Transfer Partners. Timeline:December, 2014: Energy Partners applies for permit for pipeline, 172 miles across four states. Of course, the biggest problem they had was crossing an international boundary. The environment argument doesn't seem to pull much weight.January 25, 2016: Permission to build given by North Dakota Public Service Commission.March 11, 2016: Iowa Utilities approves the pipeline.April 11, 2016: 200 Native Americans began protests began and continue.
