It began as a habit of mine when I was young, in the days before cell phones and even before cordless phones, when all telephones had a cord. I was limited by the length of the cord, but there were times when I would go the entire extreme distance the cord allowed. Now that cords are less prevalent, I only do it every now and then. ~
