They are not hearing from those who insist on their voting FOR it. What would you do? Each chapter begins with a few epigrams, and one of those is this epitaph from the crypt of two astronomers, apparently buried together:
    “We have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.”
    * * *
    And then just for good measure, that chapter also has the original version of the famous quote from Carl Sagan, Carnegie Hall, 1984:
    “All the heavy elements that make up the rocks under our feet, the carbon and iron that pulse through our veins – all of these things were created by suns that had reached the ends of their lives and erupted into supernovae.“We are all dust of the stars.”
    * * *Oh, and the book is UNEARTHING ATLANTIS, by Charles Pellegrini.  less

    Shortage of steady jobs for people without college degrees may play a role. When you're jobless you're more apt to feel depressed and hopeless. Are the more educated less apt to be suicidal?

    AnswerBag, SodaHead, Experience Project, probably others too…that people have mentioned…
    The one I was on for six years, Ask.com, they SAID they closed down because of algorithms; wanted to try out new advances. But I have wondered if it was more the ongoing difficulties with moderation?A couple flame warriors and trolls, even one, can certainly compromise an otherwise fine site.
    * * *I have a special reason for thinking about Q/A sties; which is, the global potential of the Internet; what if we humankind the little folk eventually just worked out things amongst ourselves here, world peace and the environment, society problems, dysfunctional families and such, bypassing all the machinations of governments, politicians, corporations and the various military industrial complexes? A whole new global version of 'democracy'...
     So, why are do so many sites close down, why don’t they just sell out to someone else if they get tired of it all?  less

Now I am a fan of science but believe we would be wise to have a healthy scepticism especially as what we know or believe has been proven scientifically is changing all the time.. one minute something is so, then they realise the test was flawed....and now Y is true... One that stands out to me is the one where neuroscience tried to prove that men are less empathic than women... they used dead salmon to determine whether male and female brains reacted differently... In another experiment they used dead humans, or all males, or only 4 subjects etc...  Healthy scepticism rules I feel...http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/neuroskeptic/2009/09/16/fmri-gets-slap-in-the-face-with-a-dead-fish/#.WNQMPm_yjiw  less
