I called her on the fourth day to visit her and then she was released, so never got to.. she did not return my call when I inquired to see her that day. I then sent her a caring , inquiring message on facebook the next month wondering if I could visit her to help her/see her at her home, no reply for weeks, and still no reply. I then texted her when she went back into the hospital last month for just one day with pain, and no reply. It made me feel very low, and sad, seeing her replying to her friends on FB but not me, and to not have acknowledged my text either, it made me feel quite low= now she could be having the thought 'she didn't call me' b/c she is very into the phone, but she has kept me on the phone for HOURS before, talkiing only of herself, and even when I had to go, wouldn't let me. I have NeVER been a phone person, and my inquiries were heartfelt to her even wondering when I could see her- I have an upcoming function to see her daughter soon, and she wi... less

And this is interesting because it highlights exactly the problem, there seems little opportunity for reasoned debate, in a climate where when one attempts to do that, one is shouted down or accused of really quite unpleasant things.. and that is something that is happening on a wide-scale, here - I had no idea, of course about elsewhere, just knew that here, it's increasingly acknowledged that people are afraid to talk about it..., I won't dwell on my own experience on here, in many ways that's irrelevant but that it highlighted exactly the point made in the radio prog - that it seems we cannot have even a reasoned debate without being accused of things. ... less

Cousteau says; “People have no respect for the Earth; its power, its majesty. We need it to survive, but it doesn’t need us. The planet existed 4½ billion years without us, and if we’re not careful, we may be as extinct as the brontosaurus one day.”
Well my question, is that really true, is Cousteau correct? Scientist-inventor James Lovelock, and his Gaia hypothesis, that the Earth is a living being…well what if the Earth ‘loves’ us, and if not exactly ‘needing’ us, still thrives better with our presence here?
I know for a fact the Earth can be stronger for our presence; some of the old-time loggers here in Washington State have shown me how a forest can be healthier, more vigorous and beautiful if we come in and log with thoughtfulness! less
