Le Pen would get elected in France, and so forth. Instead, there has been a backlash, with supporters of liberal, democratic values rising to protest against Trump, and stop anything like that taking hold anywhere else. In other words, Trump has been a gift to liberals, throughout the world.I have avoided using the phrase left-wing in this question, because in my country, it means socialist, and socialism is not liberal. less

I guess the logic behind the law is it's ever body's duty to vote and you can't have a fair democratic society if every body doesn't participate.
