Ironically, the elephant refuge was started by the circus. Personally, I don't support animals as entertainment. I understand conservation efforts in tandem with zoos and such, especially in regard to the demise of animals in the wild, but it pains me to see magnificent creatures without the room to roam or run free.

You wouldn't want him to be unhappy, would you? *gives knowing look*Me: *incredulously stunned silence*In this example, the other person's statement demonstrates the other person completely missing the point, but acts like they've just presented a winning argument.Another exaggerated example:Me: I can't stand people who think heavy metal is evil.Other: That's kind of like how I can't stand redheads.Me: But that's genetic!Other: Now you know how stupid you sound. In this example, the other person's argument may sound perfectly reasonable to them, but to any sane person, they look like an idiot. Is there a word that describes such a...    less

The East Bay Regional Park District simply calls them "rock walls" and notes that they are not mysterious. Livestock, such as cattle, have grazed in the east and south Bay Area hills since the arrival of European settlers. Clearing land of scattered rocks would have eased the ability to move livestock. Placing the rocks into walls would have helped to guide the movement of the animals or to help corral them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Bay_Walls  less
