We say things we mean at the moment but cannot possibly ever guarantee. Why do we keep insisting on guaranteeing anything whether it be a love or a platonic relationship when we know better?
On prescriptions there are "discard by" dates as well. I expect they wouldn't be toxic if you took them after that date but they are probably less effective with time.
