I can visit places I used to live. I can go to the same beach where I went with my kid. Visit the schools I attended. I can re-experience in real time things I remember having done decades ago. So I move to a different state. Don't I leave some of my memories behind? I can't take them all with me since the places in which they were made will be out of touch out of sight the rest of my life. She had four kids- My mom, who had a debilitating stroke at 55, my uncle, who died of brain cancer at 56, my aunt, who had the same issues my grandmother did and died at 54, and my second aunt, who is slightly younger than the one who just passed.My aunt who passed got tested and discovered she was a carrier of a gene mutation that almost always results in breast and ovarian cancer, meaning my grandmother had it too. My mother refused to get tested, but my aunt insisted that I get tested and I don't have it. However, my other (living) aunt told me today that she does. She called herself "a ticking time bomb." At the same time, I'm also supposed to support her autonomy. Our usual financial discussions surround how she wants more cigarettes and isn't happy with the amount she can afford- to which end she calls me about once a week and asks for more, knowing she has no money until the month starts over again. When that fails, she tells me not to pay her housing and care bill because she thinks they don't earn the money. :/ Throughout her entire life, she only went to the dentist when her teeth hurt, so she has needed extractions and dentures for many years, which are not covered by insurance. She's getting an inheritance and I think she needs to spend the money on her dentist, but I'm willing to bet she's going to want to spend on random things. Pre-stroke, she would have done the same. Obviously, I can't force her to get the treatment, but I could theoretically refuse to let her ha... less
