My siblings and I would sometimes listen to the conversation of other telephone subscribers on the party line. It was in 1960 that my family was able to secure a private telephone line.

I am uncertain as to whether to make a purchase because they are expensive (the cheapest version is £55) and I find myself wondering whether they are not just cynically cashing in on male vanity and insecurity.
